Dear Parent or Guardian:
It is with deep sadness that I inform you that one of our students unexpectedly passed away after an unfortunate incident last weekend involving a firearm. We are working closely with the family to provide ongoing support during this difficult time.
As students become aware of this sad news, I wanted to take this opportunity to remind our community that a student death can cause a wide range of emotions in adolescents. Some behaviors you might expect to see are sadness, anger, acting-out, physical complaints, academic problems, changes in sleep or appetite patterns, and lack of feelings.
In response to this tragedy, members of the District's Crisis Response Team are offering online or on-site support for students and staff. Students are welcome to take advantage of these services if they feel the need or if a staff member refers them as needing assistance. Students in need of support should be connected with the MVHS crisis team leader, Bruce Hesse at b.z.hesse@maranausd.org or at 520-579-4400 (ext. 4562).
Our school counselors can also provide you with additional information. Should you feel your child is experiencing an extreme reaction, please feel free to contact school counselors at 520-579-4450.
We will continue to work diligently to ensure our students receive the support and resources they need. Please do not hesitate to call or come by the school if you need further assistance.
Sincerely,
Todd Garelick
Principal
