A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens | | | Principal's Message Good evening Mountain View families, Thank you for a great start to 2019. We are incredibly excited about the direction our school is moving and the investment we see each day from our students. We are thrilled to welcome our class of 2024 to our Future Mountain Lions Night this Wednesday at 6:00 pm. This evening event is open to any new student, or returning family, who would like to learn more about our school. We will begin the evening in the auditorium with a brief introduction before transitioning into the New Gym. We have built time into the evening to allow families to walk around, explore their future school, and gain a shared appreciation for our campus. At this time of the year, our team is busy planning the vision for each department and the course offerings that support our mission. We are proud to offer a student driven master schedule, which places a significant influence of our course schedule on the requests that our student body makes. We are responsive to student preferences and look closely at trends and the need for new courses. This year we are proud to offer several potential new courses including American Sign Language, Football Strength and Conditioning, and Honors Physics 3-4 among others. In order to support this process, our counseling department has been actively visiting our feeder schools and meeting with our students to assist in course selection. We strongly value the role our families play in helping students choose the academic and elective path that is most appropriate for them as individuals. Please engage with your student about their choices for next year. Their course selection sheets are a great conversation starter and should be signed by their parent or guardian. We strongly encourage dialogue about their interests, their reasons why they are selecting specific courses, and honest conversations about balanced work load. Students will have to Summit classes on February 11th and 12th to have teacher assistance to enter their selections for the upcoming year. At any time during this window you have the opportunity to work with them on their StudentVue account to makes sure that classes were entered correctly. If you have any questions about this process, or questions related to your student, please don't hesitate to contact our administration team or our counseling department. School year 2019-2020 is going to be fantastic. Have a great week and thank you for supporting our great school. Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus. With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors. Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area. Parents: Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office. We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office. Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass. Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.
A Note from the Attendance Office
When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded.
"STUDENT ABSENCES"
In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444. If a "request to excuse" message is not received, the attendance clerks will attempt to contact the parent/guardian so they may properly record the student's absence(s). If no response is received from the parent/guardian the absence(s) will be recorded as unexcused.
"STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS"
Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". If a parent/guardian would like to request that the late arrival(s) be excused, the parent/guardian must either come into the school with the student and provide the late excuse to the Front Office staff, or call the Attendance Line voicemail at 520-579-4444 and leave a "request to excuse" message for the late arrival.
