| Upcoming Events | February 22nd-March 1st | Feb. 22nd -23rd No School for Rodeo Break | Stay up to date on upcoming events by visiting our Calendar of Events | | | February 21st, 2018 Principal Message | As a principal, school safety is always on my mind. Sometimes, national events occur that make it even more of a pressing issue. We conducted a lock-down drill this week, our third such drill of the year. I know that sometimes, even a drill can be an event that provokes some anxiety in our kids. I would like to offer some tips on how parents can assist kids when the news of the day may be causing them some stress or anxiety. The National Association of School Psychologist reminds us all that one of the most important things we can do, is to pay attention. Notice if your child seems to be acting differently. Kids often don't know how to say that they are nervous, but their actions will tell us. It's also important to talk to our kids about the fact that we all take steps each day to ensure their safety. Help them to believe that they should not fear coming to school each day. In its guidance, NASP offers this reminder: "Although there is no absolute guarantee that something bad will never happen, it is important to understand the difference between the possibility of something happening and probability that it will affect you (our school community)." One important risk for parents and teachers to keep in mind comes from teens' exposure to social media. Disturbing photos and videos taken during the Parkland shooting quickly began circulating. For some teens, engaging with this kind of material can cause what's known as secondary trauma. Parents should closely monitor their kids' social media use. It is also important to me, that as parents, you all feel confident that we are doing all we can each day to ensure the safety of your child. Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you ever have a concern. On a much more light note, I hope you enjoy a nice four-day weekend with your family. Enjoy this great Tucson tradition of rodeo! | Attention 8th Grade Athletes! | Attention all parents of 8th grade athletes!
