Falcon Family Flyer

FALCON FAMILY FLYER

Greetings Falcon Families,

PRIDE:

We are very PROUD of our WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) program! We have some many students who want to be involved in creating a welcoming environment at MMS, that we have TWO WEB classes this year! Way to go Mr. Johnson and Mrs. Reinhardt for all the work you do with WEB!

RESPECT:

Students continue to show RESPECT for their education by working hard on their academics each day!

RESPONSIBILITY:

Our staff know that it is our RESPONSIBILITY to continue to learn and adopt a "GROWTH MINDSET"….just like our kids. We will continue to develop as a Professional Learning Community.

NEW SECTIONS BEING ADDED

In our commitment to provide the best possible learning environment for our students, we have added two new sections for our 7th grade students. Mr. Jones will be teaching a new section of science and Mrs. McGarity will be teaching a new section of social studies.  As a result, some schedules for 7th grade students will be changed. If your child has his or her schedule changed next week, please know that the change is being made to create smaller class sizes for all of our 7th grade students. Mr. Jones and Mrs. McGarity are excellent teachers and your child will have a great educational experience if placed in one of their classes!

SEPT. 12th PTO Meeting

Please join us on Tuesday, Sept.  12th at 4:00 for our PTO meeting.  Don't be shy…we will make you feel right at home!

PTO is asking for dessert donations (feel free to add packaged desserts if necessary) and drinks to serve our teachers during conferences. PTO will provide the main course. We are asking for the donations to be delivered no later than 12pm Thursday September 21st. We will accept drinks starting Monday September 11th and the desserts on the 19th & 20th.

This is the link to volunteer for the lunch snack bar. We can always use more volunteers!

STUDENT LED CONFERENCES

Student led conferences are coming up Sept. 21st. Your son or daughter will be bringing home a sheet for you to sign-up for a specific time. Please look for the form coming home next week!

ELECTRONIC GRADE REPORTS

Our school strives to ensure that parents receive important information in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. To that end, we are excited to announce the expansion of the Report Card feature within MUSD Connection, the District's secure Web-based tool, providing parents and students the ability to view student information such as class assignments, grades, course history, attendance, and health information from the convenience of any computer or mobile device, 24-hours a day.

This Report Card feature now provides the ability to view and print your child's K-12 grade Report Card/7-12 grade Progress Report instantaneously! This means, timely notification regarding your child's academic progress and no more waiting for the mail. Not to mention, the cost-savings associated with reduced printing and mailing expenses, so that more dollars can be directed to your child's classroom.

Not yet connected? It's easy and fast. Simply contact our Registrar, Emily Sosinski at 682-3102 to receive your secure MUSD Connection User Activation Key.

STUDENT SPIRIT WEAR

Spirit wear is still available in our bookstore. T-shirts are only $12!

TUTORING AND GOAL

Students who stay after school for tutoring must remain in the tutoring classroom until they are picked up by a parent/guardian or get on the activity bus.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER:

Please call our office if you ever have any questions or concerns that need to be addressed. In addition to individual meetings with students, counseling lessons and coordinating 504 plans, the Marana Middle School Counseling Department offers a variety of counseling groups to our students.

If you have any questions, please contact our Counseling Secretary, Mrs. Carol Bennett, at 520-682-1715.

ATHLETICS:

Hello Falcon families!  Our Falcon athletes are showing the rest of the league what Pride, Respect, and Responsibility looks like on the courts, the fields, and the terrain.  We are getting some great experience on how to Win with Class!   Our Falcons are consistently making us proud.  Grade check happened this week and any students who received an F on their progress report are not eligible to practice or play for the team until they no longer have an F in any of their classes and are cleared through the student service's office.  Please use this adversity as an opportunity to teach accountability and problem solving skills to your young Falcons.  Losing their eligibility is a very uncomfortable experience for students and responding positively to this adversity will serve them well as they progress into high school and beyond.

Picture day for all sports is September 11th and 12th, Monday and Tuesday of next week. Order forms were sent home with your athlete this week. Monday is picture day for all tackle and flag football teams, cross country and Coach McGarity's softball team.  Tuesday is picture day for all other softball teams and all volleyball teams.

The Marana Counseling Department is pleased to offer parents/guardians a monthly newsletter related to various topics surrounding the academic, social/emotional, and career development of students. Click here to read the September 2017 newsletter.

Check our website for all of the most-timely information about upcoming events and activities.  Please contact us with any questions you may have.

Your Partner in Education,

Ms. Dickson – Principal
