Letter from MUSD Superintendent

MUSD Letterhead

May 20, 2020

Dear MUSD Parents/Guardians,

There are probably not enough words to express the range of emotions and thoughts experienced over these past weeks. We have so much to reflect on from the changes in our lives, our day-to-day routines and activities, physical distancing limitations, learning at home, working from home, and so much more. This time has been nothing any of us ever could have imagined. The world has changed; things are different. However, one thing in MUSD that I am certain has not changed is the love and commitment our teachers, staff, administrative teams, leadership, and Governing Board members have for your student, your family, and the Marana community. These experiences have shined such a bright light on the support and partnership that exists in our community. It has proven again that together we can get through anything….we are family.

As we end the school year today, we shift our focus from learning at home to the summer planning process to reopen schools safely and responsibly for the 2020-2021 school year. We recognize that these are still uncertain times and unchartered waters with many unknowns and considerations. School districts are also waiting for additional guidance from the Arizona Department of Education and health authorities. However, the planning process is underway and together we will be ready.

It is important that the District hear from you as we plan and prepare. Please take a few moments and share your thoughts by completing this questionnaire. It is vitally important that we continue to work together and your input is valued. We anticipate additional questionnaires throughout the summer as we receive more guidance from our health and educational authorities and as our planning efforts advance.

In closing, I want to take a moment to again thank you for the support you have provided me these past twelve years. As I write this last letter as your Superintendent, I do so filled with gratitude. It has been an incredible honor to lead this outstanding District. I will miss this community. I know that great things lay in store for MUSD.

I wish you, your student, and your family the very best. Stay healthy and stay connected.

Warm Regards,

Doug Wilson, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Textbook Collection and Yearbook Pick-up

Attention Families of Seniors:

If your student has not yet returned their Chromebook and charger, collection will take place on Wednesday, May 20 from 8:00am-12:00pm and from 4:00pm-7:00pm.  At this time, students may also return textbooks and uniforms and pick up yearbooks.  Due to configuration issues, students taking AP exams are discouraged from using their Chromebook during the exam, and are encouraged to return their Chromebook on Wednesday.  An additional return date will be scheduled for the week of May 25, for any AP student who is unable to attend the Wednesday collection.

Student accounts will be suspended on June 15.  The accounts of seniors will be permanently suspended.  Please encourage your student to move any documents, (slide, presentations, etc.)  that they wish to maintain to a personal account.

Thank you and congratulations to you and your graduate!

Attention Families of Students in Grades 9-11:

Due to the school closure order, we will not conduct our typical end of the year collection of Chromebooks.  Student Google accounts will be suspended for the summer on June 15 and devices will be nonfunctional until the start of next school year.  Please encourage your student to store their Chromebook and charger in a secure location for the summer.

On Wednesday, May 20 from 8:00am-12:00pm and from 4:00pm-7:00pm, students need to return textbooks and uniforms and then pick up their yearbooks.

If your student will not return to Mountain View next year, please return the Chromebook and charger on Wednesday, May 20,  from 8:00-12:00 or 4:00-7:00.  If you are unable to attend the Wednesday collection, please email Associate Principal, Robin Meece at r.c.meece@maranausd.org to make other arrangements.

We wish you and your family a safe, fun and restful summer!

Good evening Mountain Lion family,

We made it! This is the last official week of the 2019-2020 school year. No one could have predicted this ending and we are grateful for the help and support from everyone during this time. For our Class of 2020, this has been very difficult. However, having a chance to see them come to the auditorium over the last five days and have their photographs taken on the stage has been fun. We have enjoyed each of them and wish every senior nothing but the best of luck. You have all overcome challenges but will be stronger for this and will be better for all that you have endured.

Attention Families of Incoming Freshmen:

We are excited to welcome the Class of 2024.  Usually, as summer comes to a close, we conduct Camp Elevate, a fun and welcoming freshmen transition camp.  Currently however, plans for Elevate are on hold.  We stand firm in our commitment to welcoming freshmen, and if we are unable to conduct Elevate in its standard format, we will find another way to make sure that the Class of 2024 has a great beginning.

As soon as we finalize the plan, we will send an email to the families of all registered freshmen.

We're so glad you chose Mountain View and we can't wait to welcome you and your student!

DID YOU HEAR THE GREAT NEWS?

MUSD's Grab & Go Meal Program will continue through the summer as currently provided. Children may stop by one of twelve schools, along a bus route, or Marana Cares Mobile to grab a FREE lunch and receive a breakfast meal for the following morning.

Meals will not be provided on Memorial Day, Mon., May 25, 2020 or on Friday, July 3, 2020 in observance of July 4.

Visit the District's Grab & Go Webpage for school locations/times, bus times and route locations, and Marana Cares Mobile times/locations. (https://www.maranausd.org/grabandgo).

The National High School Coaches Association announced the Academic All-American Team yesterday for the 2019-20 school year.
Only eleven athletes from Arizona were selected and four of them were MVHS.

Senior, Gavin Weaver, Juniors, Brandon Paredes/Nick Williams and Freshman, Daniel Miranda received the prestigious honor.

We are so proud of them and their great accomplishments as they continue to lead our program in the right direction!
