Hello MUSD families, 
 
We have exciting news for all of our MUSD students ahead of Spring Break! Spring Break Meal Kits will be provided to all students in the District. These Meal Kits are made possible due to a USDA Federal waiver so we can ensure our students have access to healthy meals during this challenging year.  
 
Every student attending MUSD hybrid or remote will receive six breakfasts, six lunches, and 12 milk cartons for spring break. The meal kits contain a mix of frozen and ambient temperature breakfast and lunch food. The six breakfast and lunch meals will provide meals for them for Friday, 3/12, and through the week of Spring Break (March 15-19). 

Should a family not wish to receive the meal kits, please communicate this to your student(s) and have them decline at their school. 
 
Meals will go home with in-person students at end of their last day in school before Spring Break:

·     3/10/2021 Cohort A

·     3/11/2021 Cohort B

Remote student families can pick up their meal kits on Thursday, 3/11 during normal parent meal pick-up hours. Note that 3/11 is a half-day for all students and the pick-up time may be busier during dismissal. 

Other important food service reminders:

·     There will be no parent pick up meals on Friday, 3/12 since we are sending students home with food prior.

·     Marana Cares Mobile will operate as planned during Spring Break:

o     11:00-12:00 pm: SE corner of Sandario Rd. and Anthony Rd. Next to the Marana Congregation of Jehovah's Witness Church

o     12:30-1:30 pm: 16560 W. El Tiro Rd. (El Tiro Rd. & Anway Rd) At the Marana Domestic Water Improvement District

·     Grab and Go Meals will continue to be provided after Spring Break.

A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens Mountain Lion Monday Good evening Mountain View families, We completed our accreditation visit last week and are very excited to share some of the information from their report. Our Cognia evaluators were so impressed by our school. They spoke on and on about how thoughtful, professional, and dedicated our teachers are staff are and our overall vision for student success. While we will have many more details to come the three emerging trends in the impactful range include the following: Our commitment to embracing a mastery approach for all students. We have a well-established mentoring and coaching program at both the district AND site level. We have a viable curriculum (UbD) that meets the needs of all students and allows for student choice. Two areas identified for future improvement (and we are excited to start this next part of our journey): We will use date driven processes to evaluate our programs. We will create processes to allow teachers to use data to evaluate their own practices uses data to impact content delivery. "We know this works because…." So, as a school, we feel like you knocked this virtual engagement out of the park, we were all able to share what makes Mountain View so special, and we got great feedback that aligns with where we hope to move our school in the future. Thank you to everyone that participated and supported us through this journey and we look forward to your help as we continue the journey in the future. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are nearing the end of the third quarter. Attached is the bell schedule for the final week of the quarter. As I have shared in the last few Mountain Lion Mondays, it is really important for students to be engaged in their classes and that they are providing their teachers with measurements of their learning and knowledge. And, with the end of the quarter fast approaching, it is imperative that students use the last two weeks to finish their work and submit it to their teachers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seniors and senior parents, please see the attached letter concerning caps and gowns for our May 18 graduation ceremony. We will provide more information about graduation following Spring Break. The exciting news is we will be having an in-person graduation ceremony at Mountain View. There will be limitations on how many people can attend per graduate and we are talking about these limits and will share them once we have this finalized. For students that do not wish to attend the in-person event, we will have an alternative plan in place. If your child is marked absent, and you can verify that s/he did engage with school work, complete and submit the form so we can reflect that in Parent and StudentVue. The form must be completed for each child separately. The form can be re-used, and must be submitted for each day that you wish to correct. College, Career, Counseling    Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), Student's Course Request Selection Google form and online StudentVUE Course Selection Requests, were due February 11th. Students had time to complete this StudentVUE & Google entry in both their English and Summit classes. In addition, Counselors have reached out directly via email to both students and their parent/guardian if their student has not completed these requests. To see if your student has completed their StudentVUE entries, you can have them open their StudentVUE, click on "Course Request" and you should see something similar to the following: Students should have 12 selected course requests (6 classes) Students should pick a grade level appropriate English, Math, Science and Social Studies in addition to electives for a total of 12 course requests or 6 classes 6 selected alternate course requests (3 classes). These are their alternative elective courses. Student who have not completed this process, should do so as soon as possible. Terms of Service and Privacy Policy Friday, March 5, 2021 Return to School Update from Superintendent March 5, 2021 Hello MUSD families, I wanted to take a moment to provide you with an update on the District's plan to return to a full five-days of in-person learning. Over the past few weeks, District leaders have worked with school leadership groups and our health services team to plan and prepare in anticipation of this transition. We have been visiting schools, looking at all indoor and outdoor spaces to maximize physical distancing to the greatest extent possible, and developing creative strategies to safely return students to campus. At this point, we are confident in moving forward with the following plan upon our return from Spring Break. Please note that we are continuing to provide a remote learning option for our families who prefer that model. Beginning March 22: Pre-K through 8th grade students will return to a full five-days of in-person instruction. PAL Preschool will return to its three-day format (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) of in-person instruction. MCAT High School students will also return to a full five-days of in-person instruction. Marana High School and Mountain View High School, due to the limitations of the synchronous instructional model being implemented, these two sites will return to four days of in-person instruction (Monday-Thursday) with Fridays being reserved for remote learning activities to ensure time is available for teachers to support remote learners. I am fully aware of the change fatigue that exists throughout our District, and I know that some of the logistics surrounding this return pose larger impediments than others. However, I also know that we all want to have our students back full-time in a safe environment. As a result, we are proceeding with this plan based on specific considerations that improve our ability to provide safe environments, including: Improved countywide health metrics and transmission rates Effective layered mitigation strategies including continued mask wearing, physical distancing to the greatest extent possible, effective hygiene practices, and consistent cleaning and disinfecting protocols Decreasing quarantine and isolation cases within our District Continued support from Pima County Health Department for the District's return to school plans Effective, ongoing contact tracing and case investigation efforts Continued success with parent and staff communication around COVID cases with our health services team, helping to minimize risk of exposure and spread Continued low rates of transmission in our schools I know that we are all looking forward to welcoming our students back and our priority continues to be ensuring the safety and well-being of our teachers, staff and students.
