Falcon Family Flyer

FALCON FAMILY FLYER

Greetings Falcon Families,

PRIDE:

Thank you to all of the families who trusted the staff of MMS to manage the power outage situation on Tuesday. The students were exceptionally well behaved and the teachers provided meaningful activities for the students during the extended 1st period class.  We are PROUD of the way our entire Falcon community managed the unforeseen event.

RESPECT:

The focus this week is PROCEDURES! Teachers have spent time in each class reviewing the procedures the students need to understand in order to be successful in their classes.

RESPONSIBILITY:

All students will be receiving a Chrome Book on either August 15th or 16th. Please take time to talk to your child about the responsibility that comes with having a computer. Helping your child to develop habits relating to the care and maintenance of the computer will lessen the likelihood that the computer will be damaged.

OPEN HOUSE:

Marana Middle School will be hosting our annual Open House on Wednesday, August 16th, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:35. Your child will be bringing an invitation home with his or her class schedule written at the bottom.  Please join us at 5:30 in the auditorium for a welcome presentation from administration. Please bring your son or daughter with you so they can show you around our beautiful campus!

FALL SCHOOL PICTURES:

On Thursday, August 17th, students will be taking their school pictures.  Students will bring home a packet with information about buying the pictures if you would like. Simply fill out the information, include your payment information and have your child bring the packet back to school before Thursday.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER:

It has been wonderful getting to know some of your students this week. We look forward to staying connected with parents this school year.

Please call our office if you have any questions or concerns that need to be addressed. In addition to individual meetings with students, counseling lessons and coordinating 504 plans, the Marana Middle School Counseling Department offers a variety of counseling groups to our students. Our groups usually run for 7-9 weeks and our first set of groups will be starting August 21st. Based on interest and availability of facilitators, we offer the following groups throughout the school year:

Anxiety, Conflict Resolution, Healthy Teen Relationships, Self-Esteem, Motivation, Incarcerated Parents/Living with Grandparents, Grief & Loss and Sharing.

If you are interested in having your student in a group, please call or email our office so we can get a permission slip to you. In addition, your student may be bringing home a permission slip. Please make sure it gets signed and brought back to the counseling office. If you have further questions about these groups, please contact our Counseling Secretary, Mrs. Carol Bennett, at 520-682-1715.

Thank you!

Krista M Galindo -School Counselor

Falcon Athletics:

Hello Falcon Families!  It has been a very busy week at MMS.  Our Athletic department has been diligently working to provide our Falcons with the best possible experience for all athletes.  We launched the week with a pep assembly and set our vision on "winning and losing with class."

To provide a positive experience for all athletes, we have assembled 2 tackle football teams and 4 flag football teams.  Our Boys Volleyball program is looking like we will provide 3 teams to get the boys as much playing time as possible.  Our softball program is currently having tryouts, which will help us assemble 2 competitive teams and an additional 2 developmental expansion teams.  Our cross country team has come off the blocks fast and is looking to be very competitive as we prepare to take on the best competition southern Arizona has to offer.

Tackle football families, please note the following important information regarding equipment handout and parent meetings:

Football Equipment Handout & Parent Meetings: Saturday, August 12th at the MMS Gym

8th grade equipment handout will start at 8:00am.

8th grade parent meeting for all football parents (including flag football) will start at 9:00 am.

7th grade equipment handout will start at 10:00.

7th parent meeting for all 7th grade tackle football players will start at 11:00 am.

Please remember we are committed to providing the best possible experience for our Falcon Athletes.  We are setting them up for success and a very enjoyable first season.  We look forward to watching them make us proud on the, courts, fields, diamonds, and courses.

Physical Education: Good Afternoon, Falcon Parents....

We hope your falcons all had a great first day!  We enjoyed meeting your kiddos today and are looking forward to a great semester.  We have a couple of things we need you to help us with.

1. If you have not already done so, please complete the form found at:
http://tinyurl.com/MMS-PE2017-18-CP  . This form contains a comprehensive overview of Marana Middle School's physical education program, provides an opportunity to document health or medical concerns the PE teachers should be aware of and also gives permission for your student to participate in the activity choices provided by our program.

2. A reminder- swimming starts on Monday, the week of August 14th.  Students without parent swim permission will not be given the option to swim.  Swim permission can be given through the document found in the link above.

3. We will have T-shirts for sale in the gym for $3 tomorrow through Friday.  After that, t-shirts can be purchased in the bookstore for $7.50.

4. We will be assigning lockers in the gym tomorrow.  Students can bring PE clothes to put in their locker but they will not be expected to dress out until Monday, August 14th.

Thank you for supporting your student(s) and our program...
Amy Corner & Patrick Miller
