A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens | | | Principal's Message Good evening Mountain View family, November is here. The weather has been perfect as we transition in the winter sports season. Tryouts begin today for soccer, wrestling and basketball. Good luck, Lions. The football team qualified for the state tournament on Friday night and will be playing at Williams Field this Friday at 7 p.m. On Friday, we shared with you information relating to our Arizona School Letter Grade. We are very proud that we earned a B for last year but also know that the changes on our campus this year are impacting kids in a positive way every day. What happens at Mountain View each day in our classes may not be measured accurately by the letter grade but we get to witness the impact on our kids and know that we are doing the right thing. Student Engagement, Interventions and Grading/Assessment continue to be at the forefront of what we are focused on and providing valid and accurate grades is our charge. Through Hope and Optimism we can impact more students. Our students are demonstrating their knowledge and producing meaningful work. Our job is not done and we will continue to strive for an A. Today, we are kicking off our spirit store at Mountain View. We are very excited to off the items at amazing prices. https://mvhsspiritstore.itemorder.com/sale When I started at Mountain View in 2009, it seemed everywhere I went I saw school apparel from all of our neighboring schools but very little that said Mountain View. As a school we have worked very hard to change that image and in the past 10 plus years we have done a very good job at branding our great school. This store will allow you the opportunity to purchase great gear for yourself or items you can give as gifts. I shared this message last week and wanted to offer up a plea once again for our Grad Night event on May 19th: Finally, and maybe most importantly, our Grad Night program is in dire need of help. Unfortunately, our Grad Night chair had to step down and we are concerned about losing this great event. This is our call for help. If you can organize, plan and have a heart for this event, PLEASE reach out to Anne Abel at abelfamily7@outlook.com or Angela Chintis at achintis@gmail.com for more information. And, thank you in advance for any and all help. Finally, I wanted to recognize Heather Anderson. Heather has been an amazing asset to our school. Her leadership with each of our classes, as well as the impact Student Council has had at Mountain View, is greatly appreciated. Heather continues to lead her students and most of us by setting a very high standard and we are grateful for her commitment to our school and community. Thank you, Heather! Have a great week. Todd Garelick Principal Mountain View High School (52) 579-4427 | | Things to Know From the MVHS Front Office, Open Enrollment Now Open This is a great school year, and we are excited as we look ahead to next school year. Office Hours for Mountain View are 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM Students and Parents - The D-wing gate will be the only gate open in the morning, please pull forward to drop off your student. Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus. With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors. Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area. Parents: Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office. We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office. Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass. Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.
A Note from the Attendance Office
When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded.
"STUDENT ABSENCES"
In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444.
"STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS"
Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". If a parent/guardian would like to request that the late arrival(s) be excused, the parent/guardian must either come into the school with the student and provide the late excuse to the Front Office staff, or call the Attendance Line voicemail at 520-579-4444 and leave a "request to excuse" message for the late arrival. Please note: the Attendance Office does not contact parents/guardians regarding late arrivals. | | College, Career, Counseling PSAT Update: Congratulations to the 350+ students who took the PSAT last Wednesday!
