Principal's Message

Good evening Mountain Lion family,

We made it! This is graduation week. Although the weather feels as if we are heading into Rodeo Break we are actually just days away from Summer vacation.

Last Friday we held our third annual College Signing Day. Our guest speaker, Juan Ciscomani, gave a fantastic speech about facing challenges ahead, overcoming adversity, keeping your focus and becoming the best you can become. We thank Juan for celebrating with us and helping send our Class of 2019 off in style.

We also held our 4th annual Grad Walk. As always, tears flowed from everyone in attendance. This is a very special moment for our graduates as well as the students, staff and teachers in our feeder pattern. Having our graduates walk the halls in their caps and gowns is a powerful way to show our future Mountain Lions what they can become and that their hard work will pay off in the end.  More than 70% of our graduating seniors participated this year. We are grateful for this event and the impact it has on district.

We also wanted to share some of the big things that happened at Mountain View this year.

1We opened our College, Career and Life Skills Center at Mountain View. This building represents equity in a way most buildings never could.

2

If you have not had a chance to visit the CCLSC please come by and see this amazing building. Once you enter you will immediately understand why we are very proud of it.

3

With the help of our strong community partnerships we were able to install the largest video scoreboard in Southern Arizona. This has been used for football and soccer of course, but it also has allowed us to host community movie nights and will be an integral part of our graduation ceremony.

4Although we suffered heavy rain, which led to major damage in our new gym, we are thankful our insurance company is allowing us to rebuild with an incredible new gym floor. We should be open again for business in early August.

8
We would also like to thank the Class of 2018 who donated the funds to create and install our newest addition to the campus just in time for graduation. This archway celebrates a great coach and an even greater man.

5With your continued support, we will roll out new Chromebooks this fall. The collaboration that the devices have supported and innovation from our teachers, we continue to see the benefits of instructional technology. As always, thank you very much for your support of the district.

6Mountain View University continues to serve our school in so many ways. This year we installed plaques celebrating our AP Scholars. We have eight plaques full of names that have accomplished amazing things with their AP tests and will carry those credits with them to college.

7

Here is a photo from Tortolita Middle School on Friday. What an amazing day.

Thank you for all of your help and support of Mountain View High School. Have a great summer.

THis will be the last MLM for this school year. See you next Fall!

Office Hours for Mountain View are 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM

Students and Parents - The D-wing gate is now open in the morning, please pull forward to drop off your student. Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus.

With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors.

Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area.

Parents:
Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office.
We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office.
Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass.

Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.

A Note from the Attendance Office

When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded.

"STUDENT ABSENCES"

In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444.

"STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS"

Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". If a parent/guardian would like to request that the late arrival(s) be excused, the parent/guardian must either come into the school with the student and provide the late excuse to the Front Office staff, or call the Attendance Line voicemail at 520-579-4444 and leave a "request to excuse" message for the late arrival. Please note: the Attendance Office does not contact parents/guardians regarding late arrivals.

College, Career, Counseling

MVHS Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

In just a few weeks we will be heading into triple digit temperatures and monsoon season. While summer can be full of fun adventures and vacations, research shows that students lose up to two months' worth of reading and math skills! In order to help curb this slide, we have included some ideas for this summer in our attached newsletter to help keep your student's mind stay engaged while enjoying their break.
