March 13, 2019 To MUSD Parents/Guardians: The Marana district is excited to share an update related to our Portrait of a MUSD Graduate survey! In order to meet the needs of the 21st century learner and ensure every student has the opportunity to achieve curriculum standards and greater success in college, career, and life, Marana educators and leaders are using the research-based Understanding by Design Framework to enhance their curricular both within and between grade levels. As part of the first steps in our Understanding by Design journey, MUSD conducted an extensive survey over several weeks last fall. Parents, students, teachers, staff, business leaders, and community members were invited to participate in the District's Portrait of a MUSD Graduate survey. Over 1600 responses were received! The responses received from this critical survey identified the top categories for overarching goals considered the most important for graduates to develop during their pre-K to graduation experience in the Marana Unified School District. These categories are: - Communication
- Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
- Cross Social & Cross Cultural Interactions
- Leadership & Responsibility
- Self-Direction & Accountability
Over the next several months, overarching transfer goals will be developed that align with each top category identified through the survey. Once goals are created they will allow for the embedding of 21st Century Skills into our K-12 curricular units. Everyone in our community has a voice and we greatly appreciate your participation in this exciting journey aligned with all of our District Commitments: Strong Relationships, Equity, Innovation, Collaboration, and Deeper Learning. The work being done will ensure when every student graduates and leaves our District they will be prepared with the skills, knowledge, and values necessary for success in an ever-changing society.
