Happy February. With progress reports posting this afternoon, it is a good time to send out an English class update.
Following a research project on Ancient Greece, students have started reading Odyssey. For the next several weeks, they will be tracking major themes in the story. Ultimately, they will be assigned an essay comparing Odysseus to modern day heroes. Now is the time to remind students that every in-class activity counts and instructional time devoted to writing their essays should be used wisely.
With that in mind, I have also updated my classroom behavior expectations to reiterate the importance of paying attention during instructions, as well as remaining on task until assignments are complete. This includes minimal cell phone use, socializing and video games. Please speak with your student about appropriate use of class time.
