 | Principal's Message Good evening Mountain Lion family, Happy Monday and welcome to AZ Merit Assessments. The next three weeks we will be administering the AZ Merit tests. These are very important to our school and to our school district. The results from these assessments play a key role in determining the overall state school letter grade. We ask that you share with your child the importance of the next three weeks and ensure that they have a good breakfast and are well rested each day. We thank you in advance for your support of the AZ Merit test. Last week we celebrated the success of so many of our Mountain Lions. When we speak about our great students and all of their accomplishments we beam with pride. These are the things that really separate Mountain View but are also the things that, unfortunately, are not measured by the letter grades. Yet, it is in our Fine Arts performances and activities, the athletic prowess our teams demonstrate, the continued success on Advanced Placement tests and the results by our students on their ACT and SAT tests – that is what we are most proud of and will continue to celebrate. And, we want to recognize the incredible hard work that our teachers put in every day to help our students achieve at high levels, through collaboration and deeper learning, innovation and the relationships they build – that is where we feel the greatest impact happens for our students. Our seniors our on a countdown – 35 days. As I shared with them last week, this is not the end but merely the beginning. I asked them to take every single moment in over the next seven weeks. Meet new people. Spend more quality time with their friends. Attend a game, a performance, volunteer and be present in the moment. These seven weeks will go by quickly but graduation is not the end; graduation is the beginning and we are so excited to watch our Class of 2019 and the impact they have on our community, our state and our country. There will be some new requirements for parking permits and off-campus passes for next year, please see below:
Parking Permits: - To be eligible for a parking permit for the 2019-2020 school year: 1) Meet all parking privilege expectations; 2) Have no more than 10 tardies in your first scheduled class of the day during the 4th quarter.
- Students who are not initially eligible for a 2019-2020 parking permit due to tardies, may become eligible by demonstrating on-time behavior during the first quarter of the school year.
- Any students who has 10 or more tardies during the during the first quarter, will have their parking permit revoked.
Off-Campus Passes: - To be eligible for an off-campus pass for the 2019-2020 school year: 1) Meet all off-campus pass expectations; 2) Have no more than 10 tardies in periods 2-6 during the 4th quarter.
- Students who are not initially eligible for a 2019-2020 off-campus pass due to tardies, may become eligible by demonstrating on-time behavior during the first quarter of the school year.
- Any students who has 10 or more tardies during the during the first quarter, will have their off-campus pass revoked for three-weeks.
Elevate Announcement: Attention: Families of Students Entering Mountain View High School in August 2019 Mountain View High School is offering a free summer transition camp, Elevate, for freshmen who are entering Mountain View in August, 2019. Camp will be held on Monday, July 29 and Tuesday, July 30, from 8:15 to 11:30 am. The purpose of Elevate is to welcome new students to our campus and to give them an opportunity to have fun, meet new friends and teachers, and learn what it's like to be a Mountain Lion.
On Monday, April 22, an email with the brochure and a link to the registration form will be sent to the families of all newly registered freshmen. If you do not receive the email, and your student will be a freshman and is registered for next school year, please contact Lois Sims in the counseling office. Registration will open on Tuesday, April 23.
All students should have their student ID with them at all times. If your student needs one, they can get one in the Bookstore.
Office Hours for Mountain View are 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM Students and Parents - The D-wing gate is now open in the morning, please pull forward to drop off your student. Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus. With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors. Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area. Parents:
Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office.
We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office.
Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass. Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.
A Note from the Attendance Office
When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded.
"STUDENT ABSENCES"
In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444. If a "request to excuse" message is not received, the attendance clerks will attempt to contact the parent/guardian so they may properly record the student's absence(s). If no response is received from the parent/guardian the absence(s) will be recorded as unexcused.
"STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS"
Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". If a parent/guardian would like to request that the late arrival(s) be excused, the parent/guardian must either come into the school with the student and provide the late excuse to the Front Office staff, or call the Attendance Line voicemail at 520-579-4444 and leave a "request to excuse" message for the late arrival. Please note: the Attendance Office does not contact parents/guardians regarding late arrivals. |  | College, Career, Counseling Dear MVHS Parent(s)/Guardian(s), In an effort to help students better understand their graduation status, the MVHS Counseling department is in the process of meeting with or has met with all of our Junior, Sophomore, and Freshmen students who are considered at-risk to not graduate on time. We have talked with your student(s) about the importance of passing all their current classes and what it will take for them to be able to graduate on time. For the class of 2020: An advisement letter was mailed in January to all juniors, containing your student's post-high school plan and a credit recovery plan if needed. For the class of 2021 and 2022: A letter will be mailed home for students who need a credit recovery plan. Summer School information can be found in your student's graduating Google Classroom, or at https://www.maranausd.org/summersuccess.
