Students,

Reminder: Friday is the last day to make up, retake or submit missing or late assignments and assessments. Please check StudentVUE and see me immediately to make arrangements to make up or submit any missing work--either during lunch or Base Camp--to ensure that your grade is an accurate reflection of the semester.  The Lord of the Flies poster is a group project; however, you will be graded on your individual contribution, so make sure you are doing your part.  I anticipate everyone being able to complete the assignment in class on Friday, with a final deadline of Monday, December 17, 2018.

Also, your final exam is scheduled next week.  It will be posted on Synergy--make sure you bring your chromebook to class and that it is FULL CHARGED.  On Monday, we will do a review on the standards covered by the final.  I believe in you, and know you are more than capable of mastering everything we do in here.

A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens Mountain Lion Monday Principal's Message Good evening Mountain View families, The home stretch. We are in the final regular week of school before finals. As the first semester draws to an end it is a great time to reflect on all of the great things that have happened thus far. There have been a great number of areas where our students have gone above and beyond in many different realms and demonstrated their excellence. This is something we have witnessed in academics, athletics and in the fine arts. Which brings me to a question that was asked of me recently. Someone asked, "Who is the bar that we aim for?" Without hesitation I answered it is Mountain View. it is us. The subsequent question was, "Does everyone know that already?" My reply was different and took a bit more time to reflect upon and answer. That answer might actually be no, not everyone knows that is the answer – that Mountain View, in my opinion, is the bar that others strive to achieve. My evidence: Our school received a B from the Arizona Department of Education. We will continue to strive for an A but are also proud of our current grade. Our AZ Merit scores are, overall, quite good, and compared to the state average are very good. Our ACT scores are 10% higher than the state average. Students in our Mountain View University have earned hundreds of thousands of dollars in college credit. The CTE students are earning certifications that will prepare them for the workplace. The students in our Mountain View Unites program continue to learn valuable life skills that will prepare them to positively and successfully live their lives. Our Fine Arts program continues to showcase their talents through band, orchestra, choir, drams and the arts. Our athletic teams continue to produce student-athletes that are achieving in the classroom, on the field/court and continue to earn college scholarships. We want to be the lamplighter for the Marana Unified School District and the bar for all schools to measure themselves against. Thank you for all you do for our school and our community. Office Hours for Mountain View are 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM Students and Parents - The D-wing gate is now open in the morning, please pull forward to drop off your student. Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus. With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors.  Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area. Parents: Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office. We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office. Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass. Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.  A Note from the Attendance Office When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded. "STUDENT ABSENCES" In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444. If a "request to excuse" message is not received, the attendance clerks will attempt to contact the parent/guardian so they may properly record the student's absence(s). If no response is received from the parent/guardian the absence(s) will be recorded as unexcused. "STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS" Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". They came close to ending Sunnyside's winning streak and they captured the 24-Team Marana Tiger Dual Team Title this Fri./Sat. They accomplished all this while giving up 2 forfeits (12pts. ) at 120 and 126lbs. They represented MVHS and the program very well this week. This weekend we have Mesa Mt. View (ranked # 1 in D1) coming to our tournament. The boys will have another great test. * Attached is a picture of the team w/ the championship trophy. Dear Parent or Guardian,

As part of our commitment to keep you informed of issues at our school, we would like to inform you that we have incidents of head lice at Mountain View.  Head lice are a common occurrence amongst the school-age population. They do not transmit disease. Lice is spread through direct head-to-head contact and the sharing of personal items such as brushes, hats, sweaters, etc.

It is very important to teach our students not to share personal items in an effort to decrease the chance of head lice.

Since head lice spread easily, we recommend that you check your child's head for lice for the next two weeks. Head lice are small, brown insects no larger than the size of sesame seeds that live and feed on the human scalp.  The nits, which look like tiny, whitish ovals that are firmly glued to the hair shafts, usually hatch within two weeks.  If you suspect head lice, check your child's hair closely.  Head lice may be hard to locate because they move to avoid light.  Nits may be easier to find.  If left untreated, head lice will quickly increase in number, so you will need to treat head lice as soon as detected. 

If you would like more in-depth information about ways to detect, prevent, and treat a case of head lice, please do not hesitate to contact our school health office or the District Health Services Department at 616-3013..

A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens Mountain Lion Monday Principal's Message Good (cold) evening Mountain View family, We are in December. There is a line from a Counting Crows song from many years ago that said, "A long December and there's reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last." When I heard that song again recently it made me think that one of the things I wish for our students every day is that they leave Mountain View each day better than the last. The hope is that they learn something new each and every day they are on campus. The hope is that they have grown mentally and have been challenged – that not only will this year be better than the last but that each day is better than the last. The lyrics continue with "…now the days go by so fast…" which is exactly why this installment started with the statement that we are in December. It really has been a very good school year. And it has gone by so fast it seems we cannot quite catch up. For our students, they have one more big week of school then most classes will head into finals review. Our semester final exams will take place the week of December 17th. For our parents, we again urge you to look at Parent Vue and make sure that your child is caught up on their assignments and that they are aware of what is coming up in regards to finals. We are hopeful that all of our students are prepared for their finals and are able to perform at their highest level. If there are questions about grades or assignments please reach out to your child's teachers this week. It is important to remedy these concerns as soon as possible and not delay until the end of the semester. Have a great first week of December and enjoy the cold temperatures. Traffic Update: Pima County will be finishing up the construction on Thornydale near the Linda Vista this week. Traffic to school will be effected, so plan accordingly.
