arbcombo -- Friday - ARB Research Seminar: Evaluation of Regional Isoprene Emission Estimates in California Based on Direct Airborne Flux Measurements

"Evaluation of Regional Isoprene Emission Estimates in California
Based on Direct Airborne Flux Measurements".

"Presentation is available for downloading"

Allen H. Goldstein, Ph.D., and
Pawel K. Misztal, Ph.D.,
University of California, Berkeley

Friday, June 12, 2015 10:00 a.m., PDT (WEBCAST)
Coastal Hearing Room, 2nd Floor, Cal/EPA Building
1001 I Street, Sacramento, California

Accurately modeled Biogenic Volatile Organic Compound (BVOC)
emissions are an essential input to atmospheric chemistry
simulations of ozone and particle formation. BVOC emission models
originate from leaf and branch level measurements with scaling to
regional or larger spatial levels based on vegetation landcover
data derived Basal Emission Factors (BEFs), but they generally
lack validation by regional scale measurements. We directly
assess isoprene emission-factor databases for BVOC emission
models by deriving BEFs from direct airborne fluxes aggregated at
2 km resolution and averaged spatially over ecoregions covering
~10,000 km of California. Ecoregion averaged BEFs from the
landcover used by the Model of Emissions of Gases and Aerosols
from Nature (MEGAN) v. 2.1 BVOC emission model agreed within 10%
(r²=0.82) with measured BEFs, with few discrepancies (either
overestimation or underestimation). For more go to the

arbcombo -- Thursday ARB Research Seminar: Deriving Roof Albedo for Seven California Cities Using Remote Sensing

"Deriving Roof Albedo for Seven California Cities Using Remote
Sensing".

"Presentation is available for downloading"

George Ban-Weiss Ph.D., University of Southern California,
Ronnen Levinson, Ph.D., Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory,
and
Jordan Woods, University of California, Berkeley

Thursday, June 11, 2015 1:30 pm, PDT (WEBCAST)
Sierra Hearing Room, 2nd Floor, Cal/EPA Building
1001 I Street, Sacramento, California

Cool roofs reflect sunlight and therefore can reduce cooling
energy use in buildings. Further, since roofs typically cover
about 20-25% of a city, widespread deployment of cool roofs could
mitigate the urban heat island effect and partially counter urban
temperature increases associated with global scale climate
change. The magnitude of these potential benefits for a given
city depends on the increase in albedo that can be achieved using
reflective roofs. Assessing this increase requires knowledge of
roof albedo at the city scale, which until now has been hindered
by a lack of reflectance data with sufficient spatial coverage,
spatial resolution, and spectral detail.

arbcombo -- First Workgroup Meeting for In-Use Heavy Duty Vehicle Data Monitoring, Collection, and Analysis Contract

The Air Resources Board (ARB or Board) invites you to participate
in a kick-off workgroup meeting to discuss the scope of work and
the timeline for the RFP of the project data monitoring,
collection, and analysis contract for the Air Quality Improvement
Program (AQIP) and the Low Carbon Transportation Greenhouse Gas
Reduction Fund (GGRF) Investments. The scope of work for this
contract will cover data monitoring, collection, and analysis of
the projects funded under the grant from Fiscal Year (FY)
2014-15.

Workgroup meeting location and time:

Date: Thursday, June 11, 2015
Time: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (PDT)
Place: Cal/EPA Headquarters Building
Coastal Auditorium, 2nd Floor
1001 I Street
Sacramento, California 95814

Additional details on this workgroup meeting are located at:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aqip/aqip.htm

If you have questions regarding this workgroup meeting, please
contact Dr. Jennifer Lee, Air Pollution Specialist, at (916)
322-0592 or by email at Jennifer.lee@arb.ca.gov

Background:
In June 2014, ARB approved the FY 2014-15 Funding Plan for the
AQIP and Low Carbon Transportation GGRF Investments, providing up
to $25 million for Heavy-Duty Pilot Projects, and up to $50
million for Advanced Technology Freight Demonstration Projects.
ARB will release the following 3 grant proposal solicitations for
Heavy-Duty Pilot Projects and Advanced Technology Freight
Demonstration Projects; Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Pilot
Projects in Disadvantaged Communities, Zero-Emission Drayage
Trucks, and Multi-Source Facility Projects.

The scope of work for this contract will cover data monitoring,
collection, and analysis of the projects in the categories
described above funded under the grant from FY14/15. The scope
of work will require the contractor to collect and monitor
vehicle and facility data, if applicable, such as
vehicle/equipment specification, performance, operating and
maintenance (O&M) data for vehicles and facilities, and capital
and O&M costs for vehicles and facilities. In addition to data
collection and monitoring, the contractor is required to analyze
the data, to compare the data of the advanced technology vehicles
with the data of baseline vehicles, and to make recommendations
and projections on technology readiness for commercialization.
This is an open, competitive bidding process.
