Principal's Message

Good evening Mountain Lion family,

We enjoyed Prom 2019 this past weekend. Congratulations to Ms. Anderson and her entire group on a very successful and fun night. The night was festive, our students looked fabulous and it seemed everyone had a great time.

Today was our second Class of 2019 Senior Meeting. Some of the important points we addressed included:

  1. Graduation is fast approaching – make good decisions and avoid being involved with something that will take away your chance to walk with your classmates
  2. Sign up for the Graduation Walk that will happen on May 17th
  3. College Signing Day is also May 17th, and more information will be available soon
  4. Senior BBQ is on May 16 near the football field
  5. 30% of our Seniors have NOT ordered their Caps and Gowns

This is an exciting time for the seniors but they also need to keep committed to the process and finish strong. This is a time to enjoy the last few weeks of high school, spend extra time with friends, take in each and every moment – but also keep focused on school work and being prepared for final exams, AP tests and all of the other things we throw at them to finish the school year.

Three Mountain View students attended All-State this year. Adrian Jimenez, with the clarinet, was in the all state band and Sam Herschler also made all state orchestra as 2nd chair clarinet. Congratulations.

Congratulations to Sophia Marcinowski, Corinn Olson and Jessica Williamson for placing 3rd at the Arizona HOSA Leadership Conference in Creative Problem Solving.  Next up for them is the International HOSA Conference in June. Great job representing our school.

MVHS Important Letter from Principal

Mountain View High School

April 29, 2019

Dear Mountain View High School Parents and Guardians,

We consider the safety and well-being of our students to be a top priority. To this end, I am sending this letter to be sure that you have accurate information regarding what is currently occuring.

A social media post has been brought to the attention of school Administration which states a shooting threat to Mountain View High School and to not go to school and stay home.

Following our standard protocol, school administration contacted the Pima County Sheriff's Department, who immediately began an investigation in collaboration with school administration.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department has determined that the post is untraceable. In addition, it is unknown if this post is related to our Mountain View High School. It appears that the post came from a third party App which then posted to various social media platforms. There is no way to determine where or how or who posted this since there is no identifiable information.

There are no indications that this post is related to our school and there are no indications of a threat against our school. However, we will continue to have additional law enforcement presence on campus today as a precautionary measure.

Please know that we are continuing to follow our regular school schedule today.

In the event you or your child is aware of any information related to this, please contact the front office.

Thank you for your cooperation during this time. Please know that our priority is the safety and security of our students and staff and that we will continue to follow all direction of the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Sincerely,

Todd Garelick
Principal

Principal's Message

 Good evening Mountain Lion family,

Last week was a special one at Mountain View. We had the opportunity to recognize our Top 10 for the Class of 2019. We also had our Scholar of the Year Dinner. This was a fantastic night and we are thankful to Daniel Dales for his commitment to our school and sponsoring this event.

We also have a number of students we want to recognize for their hard work and for representing our school in such an amazing fashion.

The Mountain View Orchestra, along with their teacher Ms. Vargas, had an incredible year. We had one student represent Mountain View at All-State, Ivan Romero, and are very proud of his accomplishment.

We also had three students attend the State of the Town address for the Town of Marana. Thank you to Hunter Holt, Aiden Acuna and Austin Anderson.

As you may have read earlier today, we had a lock-down drill at Mountain View. As a part of our continual efforts to provide a safe and secure learning environment at our school, we performed a practice lock-down drill this morning. This was a planned drill and not a response to any threat.

We conduct safety drills to practice our Emergency Response procedures, ensuring students and staff are aware of processes including where to go, what to do, and how as a school we would respond in the event of a real emergency.

Thank you for your support of Mountain View and have a great week.

Lock-down DRILL

Dear Mountain View Parents/Guardians:

As a part of our continual efforts to provide a safe and secure learning environment at our school, I want to inform you that Mountain View High School performed a practice lock-down drill this morning. This was a planned drill and not a response to any threat.

We conduct safety drills to practice our Emergency Response procedures, ensuring students and staff are aware of processes including where to go, what to do, and how as a school we would respond in the event of a real emergency.

These drills also assist us in identifying any gaps or issues in protocols so that they may be addressed and improved upon.

Please take a moment and talk to your student about today's drill and the importance of our practice. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to give me a call.

Thank you,

Todd Garelick
Principal

We are highly encouraging all parents who are interested in this opportunity to attend next week’s meeting since we are expecting the trip to max out before the deadline and space is strictly available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We are finding that students are especially interested in this destination.

Again, please RSVP here by April 30th if you plan on joining us at https://rsvp.eftours.com/dkuhjh7

Feel free to reach out to us if you have questions.

Best Wishes,

Earl Armstrong
