 
Monday, December 17 Good morning MVHS Parents and Guardians: In the event that you hear information or have questions, I want to share with you that a couple of local news channels are currently reporting about a situation that is related to Marana High School, not Mountain View High School. The news is reporting that the Marana Police Department quickly and thoroughly investigated a possible shooting threat this morning related to Marana High School and determined that there was no threat. Both Mountain View High School and Marana High School are following our regular school schedules with no disruptions. As always thank you for all that you do to support our Mountain Lions! Students, Reminder: Friday is the last day to make up, retake or submit missing or late assignments and assessments. Please check StudentVUE and see me immediately to make arrangements to make up or submit any missing work--either during lunch or Base Camp--to ensure that your grade is an accurate reflection of the semester. The Lord of the Flies poster is a group project; however, you will be graded on your individual contribution, so make sure you are doing your part. I anticipate everyone being able to complete the assignment in class on Friday, with a final deadline of Monday, December 17, 2018. Also, your final exam is scheduled next week. It will be posted on Synergy--make sure you bring your chromebook to class and that it is FULL CHARGED. On Monday, we will do a review on the standards covered by the final.  | Principal's Message Good evening Mountain View families, The home stretch. We are in the final regular week of school before finals. As the first semester draws to an end it is a great time to reflect on all of the great things that have happened thus far. There have been a great number of areas where our students have gone above and beyond in many different realms and demonstrated their excellence. This is something we have witnessed in academics, athletics and in the fine arts. Which brings me to a question that was asked of me recently. Someone asked, "Who is the bar that we aim for?" Without hesitation I answered it is Mountain View. it is us. The subsequent question was, "Does everyone know that already?" My reply was different and took a bit more time to reflect upon and answer. That answer might actually be no, not everyone knows that is the answer – that Mountain View, in my opinion, is the bar that others strive to achieve. My evidence: - Our school received a B from the Arizona Department of Education. We will continue to strive for an A but are also proud of our current grade.
- Our AZ Merit scores are, overall, quite good, and compared to the state average are very good.
- Our ACT scores are 10% higher than the state average.
- Students in our Mountain View University have earned hundreds of thousands of dollars in college credit.
- The CTE students are earning certifications that will prepare them for the workplace.
- The students in our Mountain View Unites program continue to learn valuable life skills that will prepare them to positively and successfully live their lives.
- Our Fine Arts program continues to showcase their talents through band, orchestra, choir, drams and the arts.
- Our athletic teams continue to produce student-athletes that are achieving in the classroom, on the field/court and continue to earn college scholarships.
We want to be the lamplighter for the Marana Unified School District and the bar for all schools to measure themselves against. Thank you for all you do for our school and our community. Todd Garelick

All schools in the Marana Unified School District are open to all students, regardless of where they live! A student who currently attends a District school through open enrollment does not have to complete an Open Enrollment Application Form for the subsequent school year as long as they remain at the same school. From the MVHS Front Office,
All students should have their student ID with them at all times. If your student needs one, they can get one in the Bookstore. Office Hours for Mountain View are 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM Students and Parents - The D-wing gate is now open in the morning, please pull forward to drop off your student. Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus. With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors. Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area. Parents:
Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office.
We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office.
Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass. Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.
A Note from the Attendance Office
When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded.
"STUDENT ABSENCES"
In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444. If a "request to excuse" message is not received, the attendance clerks will attempt to contact the parent/guardian so they may properly record the student's absence(s). If no response is received from the parent/guardian the absence(s) will be recorded as unexcused.
"STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS"
Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". If a parent/guardian would like to request that the late arrival(s) be excused, the parent/guardian must either come into the school with the student and provide the late excuse to the Front Office staff, or call the Attendance Line voicemail at 520-579-4444 and leave a "request to excuse" message for the late arrival. Please note: the Attendance Office does not contact parents/guardians regarding late arrivals. |  | College, Career, Counseling Things you should do after taking the PSAT/NMSQT Congratulations! The SDFA will offer multiple scholarship awards of $5,000 ($2,500 per semester) for the 2019 - 2020 academic year. Awards will be based on:
• financial need
• a record of community service and/or university involvement
• commitment to academic success (minimum 3.0 GPA) Who is eligible to apply? Incoming freshmen, incoming transfer, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, both in and out-of-state.
The application deadline is Feb.1, 2019.

2019 KPMG Future Leaders Program
Empowering and investing in future generations of women leaders
The KPMG Future Leaders Program is an annual charitable initiative focused on developing future generations of women leaders. Funded by proceeds from the KPMG Women's PGA Championship and KPMG Women's Leadership Summit, the program affords top female high school seniors, selected by the Office of Condoleezza Rice, the opportunity to enhance their personal growth through college scholarships, a leadership development retreat at Stanford University, a mentor for one year, and an introduction to golf. The program's main purpose is to help these young women continue to build a strong foundation and instill the confidence and leadership ability they need to succeed in college and ultimately in their long-term careers.
The KPMG Future Leaders selected receive:
•AKPMG Future Leaders Scholarship of $10,000 per year for 4 years of college
•A three-day KPMG Future Leaders Retreat with Condoleezza Rice at Stanford University from July 14-16, 2019. The retreat will focus on leadership training, career development skills and golf instruction
•A pairing with a mentor for one year through the KPMG Future Leaders Mentoring Program, the mentor being a female executive leader that attended the KPMG Women's Leadership Summit, from whom they can seek guidance and support during their freshman year of college
Applications are due to the Office of Condoleezza Rice at Stanford University by January 31, 2019.

The MVHS Wrestling Team had a great week. They came close to ending Sunnyside's winning streak and they captured the 24-Team Marana Tiger Dual Team Title this Fri./Sat. They accomplished all this while giving up 2 forfeits (12pts. ) at 120 and 126lbs. They represented MVHS and the program very well this week. This weekend we have Mesa Mt. View (ranked # 1 in D1) coming to our tournament. The boys will have another great test.
